E. tricarpa wood properties

December 11, 2019

2019 School of Forestry Honours graduate  Lisa Nguyen assessed the wood properties of two-year-old E. tricarpa for her thesis. She found it to be a species with high stiffness but a positive correlation between stiffness and growth strain, meaning any breeding programme to reduce growth strain would result in a trade-off in stiffness. The species also was found to have relatively low growth rate. Lisa assessed the heritabilties of key traits and made recommendations for future E. tricarpa breeding programmes.
